Snakes Have Bones

Julian Adon Alexander, who goes by the alias Snakebone on social media, manifests his emotions via avatars of expressive Black figures in his gripping graphite drawings and illustrations. Snakes Have Bones showcases over 200 small scale works (spanning 2020-2024), on mostly graphite on toned paper. This electric debut monograph features thoughtful essay contributions from artist peers and mentors, such as Alvin Armstrong, Marcos Chin, and KAWS.

Julian Adon Alexander is a New York-based illustrator exploring human emotion through visual metaphors. Drawing from media and everyday observations, he highlights overlooked moments in daily life. A BFA graduate from the School of Visual Arts, Alexander has worked with The New Yorker, the NBA G League, and Nike. His work has been exhibited at the School of Visual Arts (2020), Swivel Gallery (2021, 2022), and Ross + Kramer (2021).
